Joyful Mysteries (Monday & Saturday)

Luke 1:26-27

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the House of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

Luke 1:39-42

Mary set out at that time and went as quickly as she could into the hill country to a town in Judah. 40She went into Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth. 41Now it happened that as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42She gave a loud cry and said, 'Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

Luke 2:1-7

Now it happened that at this time Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be made of the whole inhabited world. 2This census -- the first -- took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, 3and everyone went to be registered, each to his own town. 4So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee for Judaea, to David's town called Bethlehem, since he was of David's House and line, 5in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6Now it happened that, while they were there, the time came for her to have her child, 7and she gave birth to a son, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the living-space.

Luke 2:21-24

When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception. 22And when the day came for them to be purified in keeping with the Law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord- 23observing what is written in the Law of the Lord: Every first-born male must be consecrated to the Lord- 24and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is prescribed in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

Luke 2:41-47

Every year his parents used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover. 42When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. 43When the days of the feast were over and they set off home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. 44They assumed he was somewhere in the party, and it was only after a day's journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. 45When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere. 46It happened that, three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them, and asking them questions; 47and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies.

Sorrowful Mysteries (Tuesday & Friday)

Matthew 26:36-39

Then Jesus came with them to a plot of land called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, 'Stay here while I go over there to pray.' 37He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him. And he began to feel sadness and anguish. 38Then he said to them, 'My soul is sorrowful to the point of death. Wait here and stay awake with me.' 39And going on a little further he fell on his face and prayed. 'My Father,' he said, 'if it is possible, let this cup pass me by. Nevertheless, let it be as you, not I, would have it.'

Matthew 27:26

Then he released Barabbas for them. After having Jesus scourged he handed him over to be crucified.

Matthew 27:27-29

Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus with them into the Praetorium and collected the whole cohort round him. 28And they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak round him, 29and having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head and placed a reed in his right hand. To make fun of him they knelt to him saying, 'Hail, king of the Jews!'

Mark 15:21-22

They enlisted a passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross. 22They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha, which means the place of the skull.

Luke 23:33-46

When they reached the place called The Skull, there they crucified him and the two criminals, one on his right, the other on his left. 34Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing.' Then they cast lots to share out his clothing.

35The people stayed there watching. As for the leaders, they jeered at him with the words, 'He saved others, let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.' 36The soldiers mocked him too, coming up to him, offering him vinegar, 37and saying, 'If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.' 38Above him there was an inscription: 'This is the King of the Jews'.

39One of the criminals hanging there abused him: 'Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us as well.' 40But the other spoke up and rebuked him. 'Have you no fear of God at all?' he said. 'You got the same sentence as he did, 41but in our case we deserved it: we are paying for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong.' 42Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' 43He answered him, 'In truth I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.'

44It was now about the sixth hour and the sun's light failed, so that darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. 45The veil of the Sanctuary was torn right down the middle. 46Jesus cried out in a loud voice saying, 'Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.' With these words he breathed his last.
