A mild answer turns away wrath, sharp words
stir up anger.
The tongue that soothes is a tree of life; the
perverse tongue, a breaker of hearts.
Sweetness of speech increases knowledge.
The heart of the wise lends shrewdness to
speech and makes words more persuasive.
Kindly words are a honeycomb, sweet to the
taste
With patience a judge may be cajoled: a soft
tongue breaks bones.
Always
talk pleasantly and with a flavor of wit but be sensitive to the kind of answer
each one requires.
Simply proclaim the Lord Christ holy in
your hearts, and always have your answer ready for people who ask you the reason
for the hope that you have. 16 But give it with courtesy and respect
and with a clear conscience,
