Proverbs 2:1-5 annotated

My child, if you take my words to heart, if you set store by my commandments, 2tuning your ear to your ear to wisdom, tuning your heart to  understanding, 3yes, if your plea  is for clear perception, if you cry out for understanding, 4if you look for it as though for silver, search for it as though for buried treasure, 5then you will understand what the fear of Yahweh is, and discover the knowledge of God.

take my words to heartלָקַח= laqach
to take, get, fetch, lay hold of, seize, receive, acquire, buy, bring, marry, take a wife, snatch, take away;take in the hand;carry away, take away; stick together, adhere to; take possession of; to captivate

set store byצָפַן= tsaphan
to hide, treasure, treasure or store up; to hoard or reserve;to protect; esteem; lay up; to guard or defend 

tuning your ear toקָשַׁב= qashab
to hear, be attentive, heed, incline (of ears), attend (of ears), hearken, pay attention, listen;give attention; to prick up the ears; regard

tuning your heart toנָטָה= natah
to stretch out, extend, spread out, pitch, turn, pervert, incline, bend, bow; to turn aside, incline, decline, bend down; to hold out, extend;to turn, incline, influence; outstretched;wrest, cause to yield; spread oneself; seduce

pleaקָרָא= qara'
to call, call out, recite, read, cry out, proclaim; to call unto, cry (for help), call (with name of God); to summon, invite, call for, call and commission, appoint, call and endow; address by name;invite; to summon; celebrate 

The directions are to:
-      Take affirmative action to find/obtain Wisdom
-      Highly value, esteem, hallow it once you find/obtain it
-      Listen to, consider, meditate on, pay attention to it
-      Let yourself be changed, amended, modified by it.
-      Call out/pray for it
-      Recite, review, remember it.


This parallels Jesus’ instruction to “take and eat” and “drink” Him in the Last supper and to “eat my flesh”/“drink my blood” in John 6
