1 John 5:1-4

Everyone who believes[a] that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves[b] the father loves[c] his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love[d] for God: to keep his commands.[e] And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world.[f] This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.[g]

[e] If you love someone you don’t want to offend them and you don’t want things to come between you and them. Sin offends God and comes between us & Him. Violating God’s commandments = sin and therefore offending and being separated from God. We don’t let that happen if we love God.
